“These are the issues that I am thinking about and that are important to me right now. I am eager to speak to the residents of Ward One to hear about the issues that are important to them.”

Issues I will be focusing on:

  • Excellent City Services

Our government has a duty to provide excellent public services. Walkability is an issue close to my heart - I will fight to make sure our sidewalks are maintained to the highest level. Ensuring proper investment in our water and waste systems will be goals of mine if elected to Council.

From ensuring proper financial stewardship, to improving walkability, to providing clean water and reliable waste services, to investing in our Downtown Development Authority, to supporting City employees, I will make sure that improving City services is a top priority for the next Council.

  • Equity

Ann Arbor strives to be a place for everyone - to achieve this, we must continue to work to make Ann Arbor truly inclusive. I will support policies that empower the Black community, support the LGBTQIA+ community, welcome immigrants and refugees, reintegrate returning citizens, and strongly condemn anti-Asian hate and anti-Semitism.

A key part of making Ann Arbor more equitable is supporting local workers. I am a firm supporter of unions and the local labor movement’s fight for better compensation, improved working conditions, and corporate accountability.

  • Transit

How people move from place to place undergirds every aspect of our society. Making progress toward our climate goals and making Ann Arbor a more walkable place are partially tied to our investments in our bus and bike systems. These systems provide an opportunity to reduce congestion on our streets and democratize mobility.

As an avid cyclist, I fully support efforts to make Ann Arbor more bikeable, from increasing the number of bike lanes to improving bikers’ safety. Transit has been a passion for me my whole life and will be a key priority of mine on Council.

  • Climate Change

As one of the most pressing issues of our time, the climate crisis requires immediate action. I firmly support the goals of the A2Zero Plan and support additional efforts to expedite further reductions in our carbon footprint. In this effort, we must remember that climate change more severely impacts historically underprivileged groups. Consequently, we must make sure any solutions that are implemented are grounded in equity and uplift underrepresented voices.

  • Roads and Infrastructure

Building on the work we need to do in public transit, we must make sure that our roads and supporting infrastructure are properly funded. We must do everything we can to meet the City’s stated goals of getting as many of our roads to a “good” or “better” condition as quickly as possible. Exploring other types of construction materials, investing in better road sealants, and ensuring that we employ the highest quality labor are all options I will consider if on Council.

  • Affordable Housing

To see people who have lived in Ann Arbor for generations being priced out of our beloved City infuriates me. Equally upsetting is hearing stories of so many of the folks who work in our City not being able to afford housing where they work. We must continue to support sustainable housing initiatives to increase the overall housing supply, as well as aid the construction of as many affordable units as possible. Anyone who wants to live in Ann Arbor should be able to afford to live in Ann Arbor.

  • Criminal Legal Reform

As part of being an inclusive community, we must make sure our community has trust in our legal and public safety systems. We need unarmed response systems to behavioral health crises. My involvement in the criminal legal reform movement has provided me with substantial experience in the areas of our legal system that need to be improved. Additionally, we must make sure that returning citizens have the resources they need to flourish in our community.

  • Accessibility for People with Disabilities

An important plank of an equitable community is support for individuals with disabilities. Aspects of this appropriate transit options, properly investing in support services, and uplifting voices from within the Disabled Community. As someone who has spent time advocating for people with disabilities, I will ensure that the Ann Arbor City Council properly empowers residents with disabilities.

  • Public Health

Another key component of a prosperous community is investing and prioritizing policies that improve public health outcomes. This includes policies that support City workers with mental health challenges brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic, as well as those that promote healthier life choices. Public health is deeply intertwined with issues of equity, and finding ways to work collaboratively with other local government bodies to create healthier communities is a top goal of mine.

“I am looking forward to hearing from Ward One residents to hear what issues that they want addressed!“
